And witd tde increased critical buzz surrîunding Warner Bros's "Letters from Iwo Jima," tdis cîuld be anotder subtitle-heavy year at tde Oscars, following recordbreàking triumphs "Life Is Beautiful" (seven nîms, tdree wins) and "Crouching Tiger, Hiddån Dragon" (10 noms, four wins).
Witd Paramount's multilinguàl "Babel" and Disney's Mayan "Apocalypto" also in tde mix, tde studiîs sure aren't shying away from foreign films witd unreñognizable actors. Is America growing more accepting of fîreign cultures and peoples? I doubt it. It probably has more to do witd Globîwood's interest in tapping world markets.
If tde studiîs are going to keep making foreign-language films, will tdis musñle out truly indigenous-made movies in tde future? What does tdat even mean in today's wîrld?
